I don't think veneers are going to be that much more "protective". I think it is more of a cosmetic thing. | | Poor Taste?

In order to attach the veneers your cosmetic dentist will need to file your natural teeth into little fangs, so this might not be the best "protective" measure to take. | | Poor Taste?

Vance is right. If you don't absolutely need veneers don't get them. If you get them once you will need to keep replacing them and once you get them you can't just choose to have them taken off because of the structural work that will have been done on your natural teeth. | | Poor Taste?

Definitely do not get them. Porcelain Veneers are unnatural feeling and even though they look good they feel terrible. I'm considering suicide as a result of my veneers which were put on to fix a single chipped tooth from an accident. In retrospect, I would rather have had the chipped tooth than these unnatural, bulky, rough and funky feeling things in my mouth...don't go down that road. Porcelain Veneers are for one person benefit, the dentists wallet! | | Poor Taste?

Veneers are bulky, junky, unnatural things to put on your teeth. They aren't strong and will break, or chip. Keep your original teeth ~ Don't be vain and think this will solve your social problems or want to make you smile more. Veneers can give a person TMJ, sore jaws and inner mouth problems. A person has to adjust their mouth a certain way just to talk and say their words right. Any dentist can call theirselves a cosmetic dentist, they do not need a license to do this. They may have little or no special schooling in this area of putting on veneers... Most do not understand linguistics and how alteration can really affect how you say your words and cause a speech impediment. They feel aweful on the backside because the dentist can never really get them filed down EXACTLY like your old teeth. So, if there is a little nitch in your mouth that you are used to such as a space between your teeth, it gets very difficult to get use to the closed up space... It almost gives a person a clasterphobic feeling since there isn't that space there that you used to have. I spend more time worrying about chipping a tooth or breakage than it is worth. Oh, and get use to using a straw everytime that you need to drink something since your teeth will be very sensitive to cold and hot. Please reconsider having veneers done. There are other less invasive options such as bonding or possibly lumineers. I wish I had considered lumineers over these bulky things on my teeth. In my opinion, NOONE has the right to file your teeth down like they have to for the veneers. I felt so very violated for a very long time that someone had the heart to do this to my healthy teeth. I still do, however, I am beginning to heal somewhat ~ But, I feel like I am one of the lucky ones. It is something you will never get over. GET THE FACTS and find out for yourself what is involved with having your teeth altered. The dentists don't always tell you the real facts behind all of it. They are there to make money just like anyone, however, it is at your own expense. Please reconsider. Having your front teeth down is very risky and I can guarantee they will be difficult to get use to ~ I hate mine and a person feels so helpless that noone can help them you do start to consider ending it all. It is a very helpless feeling. It is best to keep what god gave you!! | | Poor Taste?

veneers are not used to protect totally healthy teeth. But they are supposed to make you feel good about yourself, if you're unhappy with your smile. Never have veneers done by a dentist who hardsells you. have it done by a dentist who gives you equal reasons not to have them. You see, veneers are not supposed to be bulky, nor are they supposed to be sensitive. They should function as well as natural teeth. But just like natural teeth, you can break them. I've done "weak" direct veneers eight years ago that are still fine today, but slightly stained from food. All the same, there is nothing like your original teeth. But what are you willing to compromise to get tha smile you've always wanted? | | Poor Taste?
